"Emma Johnson has realised what lies at the heart of music making when it is at its best: she does not just perform but uses the music to communicate something wonderful."
Having won BBC Young Musician of the Year aged 17, Emma Johnson is one of the few clarinettists to have established a career as a solo performer, which has taken her to prestigious venues all over the world. She has made 30 recordings to date some of which have reached the top of the classical charts. A passionate advocate of the clarinet as a solo instrument, Emma's eclectic programming has ranged from Mozart with Sir Yehudi to Jazz with Dame Cleo Laine. Her many compositions have been extensively performed and in 2024 she formed the Emma Johnson Foundation which has has entertained thousands of UK children. Johnson studied Music and English at Cambridge University, where she was the first woman to be made an Honorary Fellow. She was honoured with an M.B.E. in 1996.
